Here, we’re going to learn about creating/adding a new Post in WordPress by following simple steps only. But before adding a new post in WordPress, we assume that WordPress is already installed in your localhost/server along with the required WordPress theme.
Creating a new post isn’t that difficult. A lot of people don’t know how to do it in a proper way. If you ask me, as a beginner I had faced the same problem. All the options were totally new to me. But once I started learning and posting, it all seemed very easy. I’m sure you will feel the same. Here we will guide you through the steps to follow for adding a new post in WordPress. Let’s find out the steps.
First of all, you need to log in into your site. After that, you will get to see the WordPress Dashboard as shown in the screenshot below.
Then Go to > Posts. Click on Add new.
Give a “Title” of your post in the title box. Start writing the content of your post after setting the title. You can always add media, galleries, custom HTML, etc by clicking the “+” sign of top left corner beside the dashboard menu.
In simple words, Categories are the general method of grouping content in WordPress site. Both category and tags are used to organize the content. And tags are specific topics that are used to associate related content.
Click on “Add New Category” to add a new category for your post. For multiple posts, you can create multiple categories and assign them to the posts later. Choosing or not choosing a tag is totally up to the user. But choosing the category for a post is kind of necessary. Also, it will make your post look better and of course, organized.
The featured image allows you to add a representative image of your post. To set a featured image, click on “Set featured image” link and select the image and upload it.
As you can see here are a few options that you can use for your post. “Save Draft” button saves your post as a draft which is not ready to be published yet. Similarly, “Preview‘ button allows you to view the live preview of your post on the site before publishing.
The “visibility” option will let your site be public, password protected or private. It simply decides how your post will appear to the visitors. Publish option allows your post to be visible to all the website visitors after it gets published. Password protected options will allow you to see the post only if you know the password of it. And the private options only allow you or the admins to view the post. To schedule the post on your preferable time, click on “edit” option beside “publish immediately”. And if you want to publish it right away then simply click on the “Publish” button.
And we’re done.
If you aren’t comfortable using Block Editor then you can choose Classic Editor.
